Syllabus 2023-24
Hola estudiantes,
¡Bienvenidos a español 2! I hope you are ready to continue on the exciting and challenging journey of learning another language. This year we will be exploring the Spanish language and the rich and varied cultures of Spanish-speaking countries. However, I need your help to make our class successful. I will require your cooperation and active participation in class activities. It is especially important that you speak Spanish whenever possible in our class.
Please read the rest of this handout as a review of our classroom rules and grading policy. If you have questions for me outside of class, contact me via e-mail at [email protected]. I will be available most days for help and questions during lunch. I will also be available to meet after school by appointment. I look forward to working with you over the coming months, and I wish you academic success this year.
Sincerely,
Señora Tomlinson

Rules and Expectations for Students:
1. Focus on class. Items not being used for instruction should be stored in your backpack.
2. Speak, read, write and listen to Spanish! You are required to stay in the target language as much as possible, even when you finish early. No books in English are allowed. Early finishers may participate in the following activities: read a book or magazine in Spanish, play a game in Spanish (Banagrams, Cluedo, Spoons, 99, etc.), begin Real World Homework, study flashcards, view videos and listen to music on señorwooley.com, visit the conjuguemos or quizlet websites for videos and games, etc.
3. Respect everyone in this classroom. All students in this class are learning a language, and we need to support each other as a community.
4. Come to class on time. This means you are in your seats with appropriate materials on your desk when instruction begins.
5. Be prepared. Please bring the following items to class: charged chromebook, earbuds or headphones, composition notebook, a pencil, three highlighters and binder paper.
6. Do your own work. Translate words or phrases one at a time using the Spanish-English dictionary. Use of online translators will result in a zero on the assignment.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
WHAT SHOULD I BRING TO CLASS?
Every day you will need to bring your charged chromebook, 3-ring binder, a pencil, earbuds or headphones, three highlighters and binder paper to class. I also recommend bringing an Expo whiteboard marker to class. The items you will need for class each day will be listed on the front board when you enter the classroom.
HOW WILL I BE GRADED?
Final 15%
Tests 25%
Quizzes 15%
Homework and Classwork 25%
Real World HW & Projects 10%
Participation 10%
CAN I TURN IN LATE HOMEWORK?
Homework is due at the beginning of class on the due date. Late homework assignments may be turned in for half credit. Homework may be turned in until the day of the next unit test. You will be issued a set of three late homework passes per semester. Each pass entitles you to turn in one late assignment without penalty until the day of the test.
WHAT IF I AM ABSENT?
If you have an excused absence, you will be given as many days as you were absent to complete any make up work. For example, if you were absent for three days, you have three days from your return to turn in assignments for full credit. Please check Google Classroom to see what you have missed.
WHAT IF I NEED TO VISIT THE RESTROOM? - ¿Puedo ir al baño?
You will receive three bathroom passes to use over the semester. Once you use your passes, you will be permitted to use the restroom, but you must make-up the time you were gone after class. For example, if you were missing from class for two minutes, you will stay with me after class for two minutes. This is not a punishment; it is time for you to get what you missed, check on your grade, ask questions, etc.
